BEHIND ERGAS
The Ergas Collection has been founded by Henry Ergas, an economist who has been involved for many years in policy and regulation for the telecommunications, energy and transport industries. In 1987 Henry formed an economics consultancy which he sold in 2004 to CRA International, a US-based business and economics consulting practices. He has since bought back his business and is now Chairman of Concept Economics.

In addition to his practice of using his private capital to assist other business owners to achieve success, Henry has been a significant philanthropic supporter of a number of cultural institutions including the ANU School of Art, National Library of Australia, the Junior National Chess Squad and the Biennale of Sydney. In May 2006, Henry founded a new company, Tin Chook, which provides oversight of the Ergas Collection.

The Ergas Collection is a thought leader in what it purchases and supports. It has been able to engage with other professionals who have recognised the importance and existence of a collection such as this, enabling the Collection to work with a broad range of people from an artist just starting out, to major collectors of contemporary art.
